When I had to look my nine-year old son in the eyes and tell him that he couldn’t play on the travel hockey team that he earned a spot on because we just couldn’t afford it . . . that was the last straw.
I was so proud of him for working hard and getting an invitation to play on the team. At the same time I was so ashamed of myself because I had to turn it down.
I Wanted A Different Result, So I Took A Different Action
That’s when I decided to start my network marketing business. I never want money to be the main reason that my kids can’t pursue something they’re passionate about. So I turned to my friend Brad who introduced me to this opportunity. He locked arms with me, coached me on how to start building my business and we got to work.
The extent of the “work” was simply talking to people. To be more accurate, it really became, and still is, all about listening to people. Asking questions that get them to share more about their lives. It’s amazing how often people will express a need for the solutions we provide.
People Are Always Happy To Share Their Problems
How many times a week do you hear people say how tired they are, how much they don’t like their job, how they wish they had more money, how they would like to lose weight, how they have “digestive” issues, how they have aches and pains, how they want to get better results in the gym, how they’re stressed and crabby, how they haven’t been sleeping well?
I bet you hear some of these things multiple times a week, right? Well that’s what I noticed too. The awesome thing about our business is that we have solutions for all of those problems people commonly complain about!
Our business is just about recognizing or hearing a problem someone has and then sharing a solution to it. If they’d like to learn more, we invite them to learn more and set an appointment with them to share more details.
When You Have Solutions To Common Problems, You Have A Thriving Business.
This is where I just put my friend Brad on the phone with people. We just did 3-way conference calls because I was so new, I didn’t know anything about the products or the business. I let Brad answer their questions, and help them learn more, all while I was learning myself because I was on the phone too scribbling notes like crazy.
If you join my business team, I’ll do for you what Brad did for me. All you’ll have to do is share solutions with people when you recognize a need and then set up a call or meeting with me when they want to know more. The purpose of a call or meeting is to find out what kind of solutions they’re looking for, learn about their goals and then share how we can help them.
Whether or not they move forward with us is completely their call. I don’t believe in going for the hard close or getting that one-time sale. I’d rather treat people with complete respect and have them as a long term customer or team member because they want to continue to use our products or build a business with us.
Treat This Like A Business & It Will Pay You Like A Business
When I made a decision to treat my business like a business instead of a hobby that I worked on when I felt like it, I went from making $200-$500 a month to $1,000 a month within six months. That gave us the ability to say “yes!” to travel teams for our boys. We’ve been able to make some awesome family memories traveling to Chicago, Nashville, Kansas City, Memphis, Indianapolis and Springfield, MO. Those trips weren’t just about the tournament games. They were about the time we all got to spend together. Priceless.
Within one year we grew the business to $2,000 a month. This was the point that got us to start dreaming again. For at least ten years of our marriage Kim and I pretty much just stopped talking about our goals, hopes and dreams. We had more or less given up on our dreams. We began to settle and accept our mediocre fate.
That’s why this opportunity is so powerful. It gives the average family like ours a shot at doing something extraordinary with our lives. It allows us to dream again and gives us a plan to actually go after our dreams.
Replacing Kim’s Salary So She Could Stay Home
We remained focused on building our business and helping more and more people. Last spring the business grew enough that Kim was able to let her school know that she was not coming back the following school year. She didn’t renew her contract.
This was huge for us for a few reasons. Mainly because we just had our fourth child the previous November. Kim has always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. Unfortunately with our three boys, it just wasn’t an option. We couldn’t afford it. But this time, when she had our only little girl, she has been able to be with her every day.
The only way that is possible is because of the side business we’re building. It’s so awesome having Kim home. I honestly don’t know how we handled the boys’ crazy sports schedules and their schooling with Kim working all those years.
The More People You Help Succeed, The More You Succeed.
Kim’s able to stay at home because over the course of the past three years, we’ve shared this awesome opportunity to earn extra income with some other families who want similar things out of their lives. They also want a life that doesn’t involve saying no to their kids all the time. They want a life without stress from debt. They want to be able to dream again and chase after their dreams together like they’re kids again.
When we find other people like that, we lock arms and help them. I love this business because it’s the ultimate win-win situation. I don’t succeed unless I help other people succeed. And they don’t succeed unless they help other people succeed. It’s a beautiful thing and I’m so excited about where we’re headed.
